Comic Corner: The Avengers Review

From the acrobatics of Black Widow to the comedy relief that surprisingly took the form of The Incredible Hulk the movie was a “Two Thumbs Up!” So if you saw the movie you pretty much have a good idea of what happened and what was going on. Here’s a brief synopsis; the government lied to us, as they usually do, keeping a powerful energy source to use to make weapons, only to fall in the hands of Thor’s brother Loki the norse god of mischief, who planned to use it on the people of earth in order to make us his humble slaves. So who do you call when the world needs saving? No, not Ghost Busters, but THE AVENGERS! You forge a team: A demigod; a super-soldier, a living legend who actually lives up to the legend; a man with breathtaking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins; and you’ve just assembled the Worlds Mightiest Heroes! Picking up with the momentum that the previous movies left off, Director Joss Whendon was able to thrust you into a world of action and complete chaos. But don’t worry, there was plenty of room for character developments and further exploration into Marvel history. One of the good things about the story is that the heroes don’t exactly start off as friends. Okay, they pretty much start off as enemies, but thats only because of their polar opposite personalities. Prior to teamwork as the Avengers, none of these so called “World’s Mightiest” has ever experienced playing fair with others, in fact, they’re a bunch of overly confident, seclusive, out-of-place, misunderstood loners. Which oddly made the movie all the more enjoyable as it created rich tension and outright hilarious comedy. With a combination of top-notch acting from the cast, not to fail to mention newcomer Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and incredible special effects; the film unleashed a full on attack on the human mind, leaving the audience in absolute awe. From the S.H.I.E.L.D. heli-carrier to the Hulk smashing just about everything in sight, the film kept you at the edge of your seat with the occasional visit to the back as you laughed hysterically. The Avengers get a 8.5 out of 10!

Comic Corner: Marvel’s Next Mini-Crossover Event

Marvel announces their upcoming JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY and NEW MUTANTS crossover launching this May.

Marvel revealed a new cross-over mini event titled Exiled that will bring the New Mutants in the  Journey into Mystery. The event is set to launch five issues starting with a one-shot book called Exiled. Written by Keiron Gillen and Andy Lanning, the story will focus on the shared history of the New Mutants and Asgard. Carmine Di Giandomenico will be the mini-series’ artist. Both Lanning and Gillen agreed that the two books shared a common influence: Asgard. Instead of bringing our heroes to the fight, the two writers brought the fight to our heroes: Asgard is coming to Earth!

The five-issue event will serve as a “vacation’” for Marvel’s readers. So if you’re looking for a break from all the major events and backlashes from previous crossovers, than this is your comic book. The event will launch this May so be sure to check it out!

First Look At Marvel: Avengers Alliance RPG

A closer look at the upcoming Facebook video game. Marvel and Playdom, both under the direction of Walt Disney Company, will team up to bring us a Facebook game that would combine the element of RPG, and would feature over one-hundred Marvel characters. The storyline of the actual video game will introduce the “the pulse”, in which most of the earth’s most dangerous villains gradually grow stronger and more powerful as the game progress. As the game player, you would come in as a SHIELD AGENT and as soon as you are finished training “The pulse hits” placing you smack dab in the middle.

Throughout the course of the game player(s) will have the ability to gather together a team of heroes. The company has, so far, included a total of 130 characters counting the henchmen, villains and heroes and the player will have the ability to build a team from the 28 available heroes. Not only will players have the ability to customize their SHIELD Agents, they will be able to customize their entire game. Characters will include: Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Thor, Wolverine, Human Torch, The Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic, The Thing, Colossus, Cyclops, Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Phoenix, Storm.
