So who’s the better girlfriend for Iceman, also known as Bobby Drake? Iceman first made his appearance on the heroic scene with Professor Charles Xavier’s first class of X-Men, and has proven on many occasion to be one of the biggest believers in Xavier’s Dream. But the road to glory can be a lonely one, and so a few lover interests along the way is inevitable. So we’re going to go back in time to visit some of Iceman’s most memorable leading ladies.
In an effort to keep this short, we’re just going to burn through a few of his past girlfriends. Away from the X-Men, Iceman joined the Defenders on Beast’s behest, and met and fell in love with Cloud, who turned out to be a stellar nebula that took the female human form. After sometime of courtship from teammates Moondragon and Iceman, Cloud became the center of a love triangle. In the end, Cloud chose Moondragon and changed to the male sex. Leaving Iceman to return to the X-Men loveless. I think it’s safe to say that we all can see why this relationship didn’t workout, so there’s no need to weigh in on pros and cons.
During his run with X-Factor, Bobby met and began dating his long time on-and-off-again girlfriend Opal Tanaka. Opal was aware of Bobby’s mutant heritage as well as his superhero occupation, and the two soon fell in love only to have Opal kidnapped by her grandfather’s forces to marry Hiro Tatsu, a Cybernetic Samurai Warrior of the Tatsu clan. Bobby traveled to Japan to challenge Hiro in an honorable battle to win Opal back, which he did. Returning back to America Opal, wanting a normal life and Bobby’s affiliation to the X-Men soon took its toll and the two went their separate ways.
Sometime after she met Hiro again despite nothing becoming of their relationship. She is next seen with a child that we presume is her own, the fathers identity remains secret and she has returned to San Francisco and resumed a relationship with Iceman. However, the two split and her whereabouts are uncertain, most likely still in San Fran. Bobby’s a young bachelor, settling down and starting a family probably isn’t in his short-term goals, he’s still has some growing up to do. Moving forward. Like anytime when you think about past ex-girlfriends, there’s always one that always leaves you pondering, “What the hell was I thinking?” Well for Bobby, that relationship belongs to Mystique. Yeah you read right, Mystique. Mystique puts the dangerous in deadly, and just like something no-good entering our lives at a time of darkness, Mystique came into Bobby’s at the right time. Bobby and Mystique’s relationship made as much sense as Spider-Man’s role in Avengers Vs. X-Men. Mystique has a criminal history that’s probably ongoing as it is unmatched. Now, Bobby was going through a lot of changes with his powers and where he stood with the X-Men, so it’s understandable why he allowed love, if it was love, to blind him. Also, considering his friendship with Rogue and Nightcrawler would have made things weird…can you say step-daddy Iceman? Anyway Mystique, like always, shows her true colors and betrays Bobby and the rest of X-Men. So we’ll refer to her as the one we’re glad to have got away. I wonder if she really liked him?
Then there was Iceman’s indirect relationship with Havok. Yeah, for some reason these two have more in common than any other X-Men members, when it comes to dating. For as long as Polaris has been an X-Men Iceman has always loved her, but sadly Polaris was madly in love with Alex Summers the younger brother of Cyclops. Wherever he went she went, and so Iceman never had a chance, except when nurse Annie took up residence at the Xavier School, and Havok broke off his engagement with Polaris. Funny, how Iceman dated nurse Annie before she left him for Alex, but even for a short while Iceman finally got what he wanted Polaris. and the she lost her powers after M-Day and ran off with Havok. Poor Iceman, it’s not your fault, there’s just something in the Summer’s blood that drives woman crazy. Besides, from what I hear she’s not all there in the head, and she’s got daddy issues, so you know how that goes.
Now at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, Iceman began dating Shadowcat, also known as Kitty Pryde, who recently got out of a complicated longterm relationship with Colossus, and has chosen Bobby, to be her new boy toy. Things are definitely looking up for Bobby, and it seems Kitty really cares about him, which makes sense because they’ve known each other forever, and the timing is right. Shadowcat is the most like Iceman, she has a great sense of humor, she’s young, and a true X-Men. Although the age difference between her and Bobby isn’t clear, she balances him out, as far as maturity goes. Could this be the beginning of another epic X-Relationship? I sure hope so, because after going through this love journey of his, I just want Iceman to get the happiness he deserves. So Colossus, stay away!

So I just finished reading my comic books for the week, which by the way, were missing my weekly fixes of X-Men comics. Anyway as I was reading, I started to think to myself who holds the heavy weight title in the Marvel U? No I’m not talking about strength wise, like the Hulk and Thor, but power all around. Now AVX has changed the Marvel Universe as we knew it, and since then a lot of titles have been stripped entirely. For instance, can the Phoenix Force really be killed? Its the baby of the Universe drawing its powers from an infinite supply of future psionic energy. Its sole purpose was to cut and regrow any part of the galaxy its saw fit. Now all of the sudden its gone? You would think the Universe would have a very violent back lash. Where the hell did these three come from?
What about that power source the Scarlet Witch tapped into that allowed her to cause House of M? Or what about the Elder Gods or The One-Above-All? Isn’t Franklin Richards suppose to grow up to be the most powerful being ever? And let’s not forget Rachel Grey, who welded the Phoenix Force, and saw all kinds of revelations. There seems to be a lot of self-appointed individuals claiming to be the most powerful. Do they all work together some how, or is there a pecking order of some kind? Not necessarily new, but now prominent in current events, we have Captain Universe who serves as a host to the sentient Uni-Power? She seems pretty cool, and insanely powerful considering the Uni-Power draws from the imagination of its host. So think of all the possibilities. Wow.
Basically what I’m trying to ask is, when it’s all said and down…who calls the shots? Now as ambiguous and elusive as he may be, its safe to assume that the One-Above-All is God of the Marvel U. But then you have Eternity, Death, Infinity, the Living Tribunal, and so on and so forth. All of these characters are very cool, and unique. But I can’t help but feel most of them do the same things, and after awhile, they just undermine each other’s power. Am I the only to feel this way?
